Getting to Woolloongabba
From the airport
Brisbane Airport is north-east of the city. The AirTrain runs into the CBD and South Bank, and the depot is a short taxi or bus ride from there. With luggage, a rideshare straight to Deshon Street is simpler.
From the Gold Coast
If you are coming up from the south, Woolloongabba is on the city's southern edge — you are already on the right side of the river for the run north.
Onto the highway
From the depot it is a short hop to the M3 and then the M1 north. You are out of the suburbs and heading for the Sunshine Coast before the traffic has really started.
The drive north
Brisbane to Hervey Bay is about 288 km and roughly 3½ to 4 hours on the Bruce Highway — computed from OpenStreetMap routing rather than an official figure, and it assumes free-flowing traffic.
In practice, most people take most of a day. The highway passes the Glass House Mountains, the Sunshine Coast turnoffs, Gympie and Maryborough, and each of those is a reasonable place to break the drive.
Returning the vehicle
A Hervey Bay trip is a return trip unless you have arranged a one-way. The vehicle goes back to this depot, which means planning the last day around the drive south and the office hours above.
If your flight leaves the same day, allow more time than you think — the highway into Brisbane is the unpredictable part.
Where you cannot collect
There is no depot in Hervey Bay, and none at Hervey Bay Airport. Airlie Beach and Byron Bay are not pickup points either. If you are flying into Hervey Bay, the vehicle still comes from Brisbane — plan the pickup into the trip rather than around it.
What you drive north is another decision: a campervan if you are sleeping in it, a 4WD camper if K'gari's sand is the point, and the full fleet on the vehicles page. The other cities where a vehicle can be collected are listed on the pickup locations page. The depot's own page, with the current fleet and rental conditions, is campervan hire in Brisbane.
